What we collect
When you create an account we store your name, email, and profile picture (provided by Google, Apple, or entered manually). When you report an issue we store the location you select on the map, category, description, and any photos you upload. We also store comments, votes, and meetup attendance.
How we use it
Your data is used solely to operate bydapeople — displaying issues on the map, powering the leaderboard, generating community reports, and sending you service-related notifications (magic-link sign-in, meetup reminders). We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Location data
We request browser geolocation only to center the map near you. Your live location is never stored on our servers. The location saved with an issue is the pin you place on the map, not your device coordinates.
Cookies & sessions
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and a language preference cookie for translations. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Google Maps loads its own cookies per Google’s Privacy Policy.
Third-party services
We use Google Maps (map display, geocoding), Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In (authentication), and Google Translate (optional page translation). Each service has its own privacy policy. We do not send your data to any analytics or advertising platforms.
Data retention & deletion
Your account and associated data are retained while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing privacy@bydapeople.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Security
Connections are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Passwords (when used) are hashed with bcrypt. Sessions use HttpOnly, Secure, and SameSite=Lax flags.
Children
bydapeople is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. For any requests, contact privacy@bydapeople.com.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via an in-app notice.
